How the Thoughts of Others Can Influence You
The idea that others' consciousness can control our lives might seem strange, but it has a lot to do with social influence. Here are some ways this happens:
Social Proof: We look to the actions of others to determine what is right or wrong. If everyone around you seems to be doing something, you're more likely to follow suit.
Conformity: The desire to fit in is strong. We often conform to group expectations to avoid being ostracized.
Persuasion: We can be persuaded by others' arguments, especially if they come from someone we trust or admire.
Emotional Contagion: Emotions are contagious. If someone around you is feeling angry or happy, it can rub off on you.
